Hi, I'm Karen, it's nice to meet you...
My love of clothes dates right back to the days when as a child I would spend hours remodelling my dolls hair and outfits, giving each one their very own individual look. I have vivid memories of shopping trips with my mum and the arguments that would follow over what was acceptable and what was an "absolute no-way".
I can't remember who used to win, but looking back at the photos, I'm sure my mum gave in every time! So it came as no surprise to anyone that I chose to study textile design at Nottingham Trent University and specialised in machine embroidery for fashion and interiors. It was a great experience and one that taught me a great deal about contrasting textures, fabrics, colours and patterns. |
With every intention of becoming a designer I moved to London and unintentionally fell into a marketing career that spanned 12 years within the interior design industry. I had a great time and made some fantastic friends but I wasn't fulfilled in a way that I wanted to be. After the birth of my daughter and a redundancy (one of the best things that ever happened to me) I took time out to really think about what I wanted to do with my life. It was during this time, that myself and my family decided to relocate to Bristol, and whilst sitting on the sofa watching Gok I had my lightbulb moment and my new career started to take shape. I retrained with the renowned Alicia Kite, one of the industry's leading image consultants and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions of my life. Helping women regain confidence in themselves and watching as their self-esteem grows, fulfills me in ways I never thought possible. I truly believe I have one of the best jobs in the world and work no longer feels like 'work'. |
