Following on from yesterday's post about being more creative with your existing clothes, why not go to your nearest haberdashery dept and invest in a selection of sequins, beads and jewels and have fun creating your own unique neckline that no-one else will have. If you need a bit of sequinspiration, take a look at these from Dorothy Perkins (if you're not ever likely to sew your own and would like to buy one of these, use code DPFW25 for 25% discount).
Jewelled necklace tees are big news this season and are such an easy item to wear as they eliminate the need for accessories. Wear them with anything from a pencil skirt to your faithful skinnies or for a smarter night out, a pair of cigarette style trousers and heels. For an edgier look, just add a leather biker jacket and patterned trousers.

You know how I'm always saying that dressing well isn't about going shopping and buying the new seasons trends or spending lots of money on the latest must-have, which is why I try not to regularly post 'items to buy'.
A big part of what I do is about using your existing wardrobe but showing you how to wear it differently and making each item work harder for you for every situation you may face. I always tell my clients that when it comes to wardrobes, less is definitely more, so I was really interested to read this article by Dr Karen Pine, who states: "...the secret of dressing well may lie in wearing what you’ve already got in your wardrobe. Reinterpreting those clothes in a stylish and individual way, without needing to add another item. In fact, having more clothes simply adds to the confusion and dilemma of dressing by creating option overload. If you would like to read the full blog, click on the link below. It's got some really interesting statistics, great ideas on how to shake your wardrobe up and could possibly put me out of a job!! Let me know what you think. http://sheconomics.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/is-clothes-shopping-costly-mechanism.html I love playing dress up on Polyvore. Here's an easy to wear, warm and comfortable outfit for the weekend that I created last night. Swap the jeans for a pair of ankle grazers, the boots for a pair of heels, the bag for a clutch. Add a gorgeous statement necklace over the shirt and voila, you're ready for a night out. Or swap the jeans for a pencil skirt with black tights and heels and its a work outfit. One shirt worn 3 different ways. When you next go shopping, don't buy one off pieces that don't go with anything else, instead think about what you already own and work out how the new garment will create more versatility and diversity in your wardrobe. If it doesn't create at least 3 new outfits, put it back, the likelihood is you'll either a) never wear it or b) have to buy something else to match it with. Either way it's costing you more money than the original item. Oh my goodness! Have you seen the weather? I just got caught in it wearing suede boots but thankfully I had already sprayed them and my leather bag with rain guard so no wet feet or ruined bags here! Now the seasons have most definitely changed its worth spending some time waterproofing your leather and suede shoes and bags. It will help to keep them looking as good as new and will stop unsightly water stains. Most shoe shops and dry cleaners sell it and for around £4-£5 and it can mean the difference between keeping a great pair of shoes for years or having to replace them year in, year out. |
I'm a lover of all things fashion, style and image related but more than that I believe passionately in the power of feeling good in your clothes.
I'm also a mum to a teenage daughter who is taller than me with legs longer than mine and a dog whose curls are glossier and bouncier than mine!! Archives
